The Marangu Route, also referred to as the “Coca Cola” or “tourist” route, is recognized as the easiest and shortest path to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Distinguished by the provision of sleeping huts at each campsite equipped with solar lights and comfortable beds, it stands as the sole route offering such amenities. The huts, communal in nature, feature bunks with sponge mattresses and pillows. Mandara and Kibo Huts accommodate 60 beds each, while Horombo Hut boasts 120 beds. While bathrooms and running water are accessible at the lower huts, basic latrines are available at the final camp.
Meals in dining huts foster a convivial atmosphere as climbing groups, often representing various countries, converge for shared meals. Although typically completed in 5 days, the route allows for a 6-day itinerary to facilitate better acclimatization. This additional day offers the option to rest at Horombo or ascend the small peak of Mawenzi.
